Who We Are

• The First Baptist Church traces its roots to 1858 and merged with another Baptist Church in 1864 and was located in downtown Leavenworth until 1957 when it moved to its present location at 13th and Osage Streets.

• The Church is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches of the USA (formerly the Northern Baptist Convention).  Our convention is comprised of approximately 6,000 churches with 1.2 millions members.

• The church is also affiliated with the American Baptist Churches of the Central Region (formerly the Kansas Baptist Convention). 

• The church is evangelical in nature.  We believe in the historic, biblical Christian faith.  We seek to be true to the Holy Scriptures in our faith and practice and to boldly proclaim the Good News of Salvation through Jesus Christ.

• The Church is cooperative in nature.  We seek to cooperate with other Christian organizations in carrying out the Great Commission of our Lord.
